Droogte en warmte

Vanmorgen zat ik een stuk over de droogte en het opmerkelijke warme water te lezen. Op het moment is het rivier en zeewater in en rond Nederland twee graden warmer dan normaal rond deze tijd. Gezien hebbende de weersvooruitzichten voor de komende drie weken zal deze temperatuur nog verder oplopen. De kans is groot als augustus ook zo’n warme en droge maand is als juni en juli dat de we op een verschil van acht tot tien graden gaan uitkomen. Mocht het weer dan in september gaan omslaan dan kan dat grote gevolgen hebben.

De natuur heeft het op het moment zwaar te verduren met de droogte. De grond is kurkdroog, veel bomen verliezen al hun blad “dat is hun manier om vocht te besparen en om te kunnen overleven” en mocht het in september plots gaan stormen dan zullen veel bomen het loodje gaan leggen omdat hun wortels door de droge grond geen houvast meer heeft. Omdat het water van de Noordzee zo warm is zullen buien maar ook depressies heel wat agressief zijn dan normaal. Kijk niet gek op als er in september of oktober ineens tornado’s worden gemeld tijdens felle buien.

Dit beeld hoort helemaal bij het veranderende klimaat. Ik ben geen fan van de klimaat hysterie die we in de media terug zien omdat die verre van zuiver is. Ik ben ook geen ontkenner van het veranderende klimaat. Ik vind het alleen wel heel simpel om de mens als schuldige aan te wijzen terwijl er tal van andere factoren een rol spelen maar die worden nooit genoemd in de klimaat debatten of weg gewoven als zijnde onzin. De mens is slechts voor 1% schuldig aan het veranderende klimaat, de overige 99% is puur een natuurlijk proces. Dit proces is al miljoenen jaren gaande. De Zon, kosmische straling die steeds gemakkelijker de aarde weet te bereiken omdat het magnetische veld van de aarde aan het verzwakken is en de Aarde zelf die van binnenuit aan het opwarmen is zijn schuldig aan het opwarmende klimaat.

Bij opgravingen in het noorden van Canada (boven de poolcirkel) zijn de restanten van een tropisch regenwoud ontdekt wat dus inhoud dat het vroeger vele malen warmer was op deze planeet dan nu het geval is. Natuurlijk hebben we allemaal gehoord over de verschillende ijstijden die er zijn geweest maar er zijn dus ook tijden geweest dat het enorm warm was op aarde. Enige tijd geleden nog schreef ik een artikel over Doggerland wat was gesitueerd tussen Nederland en Groot Brittannië. Deze twee landen werden alleen gescheiden door een rivier die vanuit oosten “de Rijn”  en westen “de Thames” werd gevoed. In vroeger tijden had de rivier de Nijl een aftakking die uit kwam in de Atlantische oceaan en liep dwars door wat we nu de Sahara noemen. En zo zijn er nog tal van voorbeelden te noemen van hoe dingen waren en hoe ze nu zijn.

Planeet aarde is een levend wezen waarop dingen veranderen door de tijden heen net als dat wij of de rest van de natuur steeds veranderd. De mens schijnt steeds te vergeten dat het onderdeel is van die natuur en daar dus niet boven staat al denken sommige dat soms wel. Wat wij mensen dus moeten doen is die 1% invloed die wij hebben op het klimaat terug te brengen naar 0, ons aan te passen aan het veranderende klimaat en de natuur en leren in harmonie met de natuur samen te leven. Dat was ook onze originele opdracht, zorg voor de planeet aarde en zij zal voor jullie zorgen. Helaas is de mens een hebzuchtig roofdier, een prinsje nooit genoeg en heeft overal een prijskaartje aangehangen en is met dat prijskaartje gaan speculeren. Gevolg, nog meer hebzucht en overige ellende.

Voor de komende maanden raad ik aan om voldoende water in te slaan. Als de weervoorspellingen zoals die er vandaag liggen uitkomen is de kans groot dat het drinkwater in augustus gerantsoeneerd gaat worden. Wees zuinig met drinkwater, douche en was wat minder. Door de te wachten tot de wasmachine echt helemaal vol is bespaar je weer het nodige water. Water dat je gebruikt tijdens het koken kun je nadat het is afgekoeld gebruiken om de plantjes in de tuin of op het balkon mee te bewateren. En zo zijn er nog tal van kleine maar handige dingen te bedenken om water te besparen en mocht je het niet weten google er eens op.

 Drought and Heat

This morning I was reading an article about the drought and the remarkably warm water. At the moment, the river and seawater in and around the Netherlands is two degrees warmer than normal for this time of year. Given the weather forecasts for the coming three weeks, this temperature will rise even further. If August turns out to be as warm and dry a month as June and July, there is a high probability that we will end up with a difference of eight to ten degrees. Should the weather then turn in September, that could have major consequences.

Nature is currently suffering greatly from the drought. The ground is bone dry, many trees are losing all their leaves—"that is their way of conserving moisture and surviving"—and should a sudden storm hit in September, many trees will perish because their roots will no longer have a foothold due to the dry soil. Because the North Sea water is so warm, showers as well as depressions will be much more aggressive than normal. Don't be surprised if tornadoes are suddenly reported during heavy downpours in September or October. 

This image is entirely consistent with climate change. I am not a fan of the climate hysteria we see in the media because it is far from pure. Nor am I a climate change denier. I just find it very simplistic to single out humans as the culprits, while numerous other factors play a role, yet these are never mentioned in climate debates or are dismissed as nonsense. Humans are only 1% responsible for climate change; the remaining 99% is purely a natural process. This process has been going on for millions of years. The Sun, cosmic radiation reaching Earth with increasing ease because the Earth's magnetic field is weakening, and the Earth itself, which is warming from within, are responsible for the warming climate.

During excavations in northern Canada (above the Arctic Circle), the remains of a tropical rainforest were discovered, which implies that it was once many times warmer on this planet than it is today. Of course, we have all heard about the various ice ages that have occurred, but there have also been times when it was extremely hot on Earth. Some time ago, I wrote an article about Doggerland, which was situated between the Netherlands and Great Britain. These two countries were separated only by a river fed from the east—"the Rhine"—and from the west—"the Thames." In earlier times, the River Nile had a branch that flowed into the Atlantic Ocean and ran straight through what we now call the Sahara. And there are countless other examples to mention of how things were and how they are now.

Planet Earth is a living being on which things change throughout the ages, just as we or the rest of nature constantly changes. Humans seem to constantly forget that they are part of that nature and therefore do not stand above it, although some sometimes think they do. What we humans must therefore do is reduce the 1% influence we have on the climate to 0, adapt to the changing climate and nature, and learn to live in harmony with nature. That was also our original mission: take care of planet Earth, and she will take care of you. Unfortunately, man is a greedy predator, a greedy prince who has never satisfied, and has put a price tag on everything and started speculating with that price tag. The result: even more greed and other misery.

For the coming months, I recommend stocking up on sufficient water. If the weather forecasts as they stand today come true, there is a high chance that drinking water will be rationed in August. Be economical with drinking water; shower and wash a little less. By waiting until the washing machine is completely full, you save the necessary water. Water used for cooking can be used, once it has cooled down, to water the plants in the garden or on the balcony. And there are countless other small but handy things to think of to save water; if you don't know them, just Google them.

Doggerland

We schrijven het jaar 16.000 voor Chr. toen Europa nog een groot continent was. Toen zaten Groot-Brittannië en Ierland namelijk nog gewoon vast aan het Europese continent. Het land tussen Nederland en Groot-Brittannië noemen we nu Doggerland. Onderzoeken van de huidige Noordzee bodem wijzen uit dat Doggerland een soort van utopisch land moet zijn geweest met een grote biodiversiteit aan planten, bomen en dieren maar er leefde toen ook redelijk veel mensen.

Scandinavië was nog een grote ijsvlakte en ook een groot gedeelte van het huidige Schotland was nog bevroren. Maar daar op de huidige bodem van de Noordzee was het goed toeven voor mensen en dieren met rijke landbouw gronden al werd dat toen nog maar heel schaars bedreven. Wel waren er jagers, vissers en herders die daar rond trokken. Ook stroomde er veel rivieren door Doggerland. Zo stroomde de Rijn door Doggerland en kwam net als de Thames uit in het huidige kanaal.

Rond 8000 voor Chr. was de aarde al een stuk opgewarmd en dus liepen grote gedeeltes van Doggerland onderwater en 1000 jaar later was er weer veel land verdwenen. Het kanaal begon zich te vormen en Doggerland werd steeds meer Doggerbank. Ergens tussen het jaar 1000 voor Chr. en het jaar 0 van onze jaartelling verdween Doggerland en dus ook Doggerbank geheel in de zee en waren Ierland, Groot-Brittannië en alle huidige eilanden daaromheen los van het Europese vasteland. En daarmee was de huidige Noordzee dus een feit. De mensen die in Doggerland hadden gewoond waren gevlucht naar Groot-Brittannië, Ierland, Denemarken, Frankrijk, Nederland en België.

Doggerland, het heeft mij altijd gefascineerd zolang als ik van het bestaan af weet en dat is nu zo’n 46 jaar. Het was op de vrije school in Zeist dat men daarover vertelde. Ik kwam toen ook in aanraking met een boek dat verhaalde over een dorpje bij Denemarken waar een zonderling met hel blauwe ogen opdook. Hij sprak nooit maar wist middels gebaren duidelijk te maken dat het dorpje zich klaar moest maken voor de strijd met de zee. En dus werden er dijken aangelegd die het dorpje zouden beschermen. Een vervaarlijke storm kwam en beukte op de aangelegde dijken. Veel bewoners dachten dat hun laatste uur had geslagen, hier en daar kwam het water over de dijken. Maar de zonderling bleef vertrouwen hebben en vocht met het water. Uiteindelijk bleef het dorpje gespaard maar de zonderling was verdwenen in de diepte van de zee. Als dank werd er een standbeeld gemaakt van en voor hem en het schijnt dat dit stambeeld er nog steeds staat.

Doggerland

The year is 16,000 BC, when Europe was still a large continent. At that time, Great Britain and Ireland were still simply attached to the European continent. We now call the land between the Netherlands and Great Britain Doggerland. Studies of the current North Sea seabed indicate that Doggerland must have been a kind of utopian land with great biodiversity of plants, trees, and animals, but a considerable number of people also lived there at the time.

Scandinavia was still a large ice sheet, and a large part of present-day Scotland was also still frozen. But there, on the current seabed of the North Sea, it was a pleasant place for people and animals, with rich agricultural lands, although farming was practised only very sparingly at the time. There were, however, hunters, fishermen, and shepherds roaming the area. Many rivers also flowed through Doggerland. For instance, the Rhine flowed through Doggerland and, like the Thames, emptied into the current canal.

Around 8000 BC The earth had already warmed up considerably, and so large parts of Doggerland were submerged, and 1000 years later, much land had disappeared again. The Channel began to form, and Doggerland increasingly became the Dogger Bank. Sometime between the year 1000 BC and the year 0 AD, Doggerland—and thus Dogger Bank—disappeared completely into the sea, and Ireland, Great Britain, and all the current islands surrounding them were separated from the European mainland. And with that, the current North Sea became a reality. The people who had lived in Doggerland had fled to Great Britain, Ireland, Denmark, France, the Netherlands, and Belgium.

Doggerland has always fascinated me for as long as I have known of its existence, which is now about 46 years. It was at the Waldorf school in Zeist that they talked about it. At that time, I also came into contact with a book that told the story of a small village near Denmark where an eccentric man with bright blue eyes appeared. He never spoke, but through gestures he managed to make it clear that the village had to prepare for the battle with the sea. And so dikes were built to protect the village. A dangerous storm came and battered the constructed dikes. Many residents thought their last hour had struck; here and there, the water came over the dikes. But the eccentric remained faithful and fought with the water. Ultimately, the village was spared, but the eccentric had vanished into the depths of the sea. In gratitude, a statue was made of and for him, and it seems that this statue still stands there.
